As we come to the end of year and look forward to the new one many people will be contemplating turning over a new leaf for the future. This could mean that this year will be the one where they take control of their houses and the clutter as they try to restore some order to their belongings.

But, decluttering can be a particularly challenging task to undertake, it can appear overwhelming and too many people fail at the first hurdle and simply give up.

5 Tips For De-cluttering Your Home

If you really want to make a difference on the clutter in your home, then here are 5 tips to help you:

1.One Room At A Time: When it comes to the clutter in our homes it can be hard to know where to begin. The best suggestion is to start with just one room. Concentrate on decluttering just the one room at a time and break the task down into small manageable chunks. You didn’t clutter everything up in one day so don’t expect to be able to sort it out in a very short space of time either. Choose one area of the room to start with and concentrate on just sorting that out.

2.Be Ruthless: Ask yourself some important questions; Do I need it? Do I want it? Do I use it? If the answer to any of these if no them be ruthless and get rid of the item in question. Do not fall into the trap of keeping things simply because you might need it in the future or you might find a use for it. If you have been keeping old clothes in your wardrobe because you might slim back into them one day, get rid. If you do lose weight, then chances are you will want to buy new clothes to show of your slimmer figure. Absolutely do not keep items because you are not sure what they are but they might be important; if you don’t know what it is you don’t need it!

3.Boxes: Get some boxes before you start decluttering, label them; To Keep, Charity shop, to relocate (to another room), To bin. As you sort through your things place them in the most appropriate box. When you have emptied an item of furniture, or cleared up a pile find a home in the space you have created for the “To keep” items. Regularly empty the “Charity shop” box by placing the contents in a bag and dropping it off before you change your mind and end up putting things back.

4.Order A Skip: If you have a lot of clutter, then there is a good chance you will be throwing a lot of items away. Do not be tempted to keep things because you can’t fit any more in your bin or can’t easily get to the local household recycling centre – instead, consider skip hire. Make sure that you regularly empty the box labelled “to bin” into the skip. Watching your unneeded clutter mount up in one place like this can be a real eye opener and is often the push that people need to keep them going with a huge decluttering project.

5.Challenge Yourself: Finally, give yourself 10 minutes and see how much you can accomplish in that time. If you really put your mind to it, you will be amazed by just how much you can achieve in just a short space of time.

It’s easy to find just 10 minutes every day to tackle just a little bit of the clutter so make decluttering a part of your daily routine until you have reclaimed your house.
