Most people do not give too much attention to the look of their rooms. Sure, they want them to look nice and be functional, but, for the number of reasons (including the financial ones), people are rarely willing to think too far beyond that. For the kids, however, their rooms are their own magic castles, their small worlds, and the places of joy and imagination. Making those rooms shine is well worth the effort. Let us see then how we can do that, even if we are operating on a budget.

How To Create A Cool Kids’ Bedroom On A Budget

Get Furniture with Enough Storage Space

As soon as your kids are old enough to play independently, the number of things they will stockpile in their rooms will quickly become impressive. Do not force them to part their ways with the things they like and use every corner of kids’ rooms to expand the storage space. Fortunately, flea markets are filled with various shelves and cabinets which can be easily refreshed, and repurposed into something very vivid and nice-looking. You can even try to work out your DIY muscles and create interesting shelves by yourself.

Put the Things into Perspective

Whether you are aware of that or not, your kids are growing up very quickly and their interests are changing just as fast. So, if you only focus on their current age, you are running a risk of having to rebuy everything as soon as next year. To put it simply, your daughter may rediscover her love for vintage details later in her life, and your son will probably find a new appreciation for superheroes once in high school. As for now, you should downplay those details a bit, or you will have to retire the Disney-princess bed, and Superman wallpapers sooner than you have planned.

Make the Room More Vibrant

Small kids love vibrant colors, but you should not invest your money in something that will, at some point, become outdated. Instead, fulfill their wishes with small details like cushions, rugs, beddings, and similar stuff.  If you want, you can even give the wooden elements occasional paint jobs to shake things up a bit. Finally, you can also use wall stickers. They can quickly change how some room feels, and they are as easy to remove as they are cheap.

Get a Cabin Bed

There is something about cabin beds and high sleepers that kids find instantly appealing. It is probably the fact that they have a ladder kids can climb which gives their play another dimension. Still, your kids are not the only ones who can benefit from this neat piece of furniture. In your case, cabin beds are lifesavers. Packing the bed, storage units, table, and sometimes even a seating on a very small surface, and for a very acceptable price, they should be a part of any kids’ room.

Change the Lighting

The way some room is lighted can make or break its look, so if you put a little bit of effort in this particular décor aspect, you can make kids’ rooms appear way “cooler” than they currently are. The good news is that the number of affordable lighting solutions is more than satisfying. So, Star Wars kids will find the most enjoyment in futuristic neon lights, little science buffs will adore the constellation you made out of string lights, and you will end up with something very interesting even if you just hang the bulbs on the walls and draw creative lamps around them.

Those were few ideas how to make your kids’ rooms look awesome, even if your resources are very limited. Still, it should not be a bad idea to ask them for opinion before making any final decision. If you work together, we are sure you can create something truly magical.
