There are things that we may do improperly. These habits could really drain our finances and put us at bad situations.

6 Poor Financial Habits

  1. We have too many trips in a day: Many of us do this and don’t really feel guilty about it. After we come home from the bank, we realize that we need to buy a few things at the store, we come home again for 15 minutes and then go to pick up the kids. This isn’t only waste fuel, but also increases wear and tear on our car. Instead, before we go to bed, we should make a list of things that we need and we should do. This should allow us to complete these tasks all at once. If possible, we could also review the route on the map and if possible, we should be able to all of our tasks in one trip with a single loop.
  2. We don’t live within our means: Many of us prioritize on our wants too much. This could cause credits to flow freely and we won’t be able to catch up financially. This causes us to get angry with ourselves, especially when debts have accumulated so much that we are unable to make regular payments. By living within our means, we should be able to enjoy what we have and we could be thankful for everything. For those with financial problems, the days of spending frivolously should be gone. It should be the time when we need to remember what is really important and we need to be grateful for it.
  3. We don’t want to go to garage sales and thrift stores: We could actually save a lot of money by going to these places. Not only can we spend less money, we will enjoy going to these places. We will benefit the environment by reusing things that have been produced.
  4. We give gifts excessively: Gift-giving has become a multi-million dollar industry. In reality, many of our gifts are produced in country with low wages. When these items reach the stores, especially in Western countries, they have been marked up ridiculously. As a result, it would be much nice if we give others a handmade gift. Gifts should be more about
  5. We believe that we must pay for everything: In reality, we could get a free lunch. If we are living near a college, we should be quite near places with free entertainment. Local papers often list schedules about free festivals and concerts. And while we are at it, it is a good idea to check websites like Totallyfreebies.com and Freecycle.org.
  6. We keep things that we no longer use: In many cases, we keep things that we no longer use and they could cause us to spend money while having it. As an example, we could have an extra car that we don’t need in our garage. We need to spend money on tax, insurance and maintenance, although we use it very rarely.
