Let’s break it down and look at three specific ways that travel technology is going to be changing in 2014 and beyond. The good news is that as technology makes travel easier, prices are going to come down as well. This may really open the world up to a lot of people who want to travel. First, let’s look at the changes on the horizon. You’ve probably heard about some of these, but we want to go into a little more detail.
- Auto Driving Cars
This may sound farfetched, but it’s actually already available. Google and others have come up with automobiles that drive themselves. While they’re not in mass circulation yet, there’s a good chance that laws and regulations for them will start to be looked at in 2014 and beyond. This will lead to this becoming an easy way to travel from one part of the country to another – while doing something else.
- Fuel Economy
Whether it’s better gas mileage from gasoline engines, hybrids or even electric vehicles, fuel economy has gotten quite a bit better over the last couple years. This trend is going to continue in 2014 and may even lead us to vehicles that get close to 100 miles per gallon. This may seem far fetched, but as the reality of Peak Oil is studied, it’s obvious that something is going to have to be done to maintain the current lifestyle some people around the world enjoy.
- Carbon Fiber
In the past, airplanes, trains and cars and trucks were made out of sheet metal. These days, carbon fibers that are stronger than steel but lighter are being developed. As these begin to be used more in aircraft and vehicle design, it’s going to help increase fuel economy across the board because of the lighter weights. There are limits to how far mankind can take the technology, but the future is very bright when it comes to making vehicles lighter and stronger at the same time.
As mentioned, there’s a very good chance you’ve heard something about the three technologies listed above in the last few months.
