Moving out needs to be well planned and organized in order to be fully successful since there are dozens of things that need to be covered. Although they are probably not at the top of the priority list, plants need special attention, too. There are certain considerations that need to be taken into account if you wish for them to go through the moving process undamaged and prosper at your new premises. Here is how to manage them properly.
Means of Transport
A choice of means of transport  is the first thing to think about since there are significant differences in relation to the type of vehicles used. For example, the procedure is different if you are moving by car, a van, not to mention a plane. This is especially true when it comes to packaging, transport rules and regulations and particularly the guaranties for safe delivery.
Car Transport
A personal car would be the best solution since you will have full control over temperature, humidity and ventilation. There are no packaging rules, apart from those of common sense, that is, that the plants need to be safely stored in your car. Avoid putting them in the truck of your car, particularly when it comes to sensitive plants. The temperature and humidity there significantly differs from the one in the passenger area. Also, if the trip will take more than a day or two, bear in mind that you may need to water the plants.
Other Transporting Options
If it is not possible to move your plants via personal car and you opt for a van or truck delivery, there are no universal answers on what will be required. You need to make direct enquiries since moving companies offer different conditions and have certain restrictions when it comes to moving plants. Also, you will be responsible for safe packaging and loading preparations. The same applies to airfreight. Airlines do accept plants, as long as everything is prepared and organized in advance. Also, bear in mind that if you are moving from one state to another, there are certain rules that need to be followed.
Prepare the Plants
Prune, feed and water them and treat them against pets so that they are in their perfect state before moving. Pack them well in durable packaging such as cardboard boxes or plastic or wooden crates. However, do not pack them too tight, they will need all the air they can get. If you are moving garden plants, dig them up on your moving day and wrap their roots in plastic, along with the soil they are in. This way they will retain moisture and will be replanted easier.
Vertical Gardens
If you happen to have a vertical garden, it will require a special attention. The most important thing would be to properly disassemble them. The best way to transport a green wall structure is to move it in modules. Pack each of the modules individually and protect the plants by covering them. Not only will the plants keep their moisture this way, you will install your vertical garden in no time at your new home, as well.
The most important thing when moving plants is preparation. Do not rush things, follow every procedure, especially if you have them moved and the chances that you will enjoy your beloved plants in your new home will immensely improve.
