The compact crossover segment is on the roll. With Volkswagen, Ford and Toyota already raking success with Volkswagen Cross Polo, Ford EcoSport, and Toyota Etios Cross, respectively, Fiat could not stay silent. First unveiled at the 2014 Auto Expo, the Avventura was officially launched in October 2014 and it received a lot of bookings.
The aggressive bumper flanked by swept back headlights and the16-inch alloy wheels add to its sportiness. The name ‘Avventura’ is written rather prominently on the side moulding. All these modifications make the Avventura look significantly different and distinct from its hatchback sibling. The Avventura is the most eye-catchy offering amongst all the crossovers. It has been given a more rugged look with the help of a big spare wheel at the rear, skid guards, bash plates, plastic cladding and aluminium roof rails and it looks beefier than the Punto.
The 5 seater cabin is very spacious and offers ample leg room and head space. Standard features on the top-end models include climate control, rear AC vents, adjustable driver seat, electrically adjustable mirrors and an audio system with Bluetooth connectivity. The noticeable adaptation is the compass and clinometers on the centre console, yaw indicator and a soft touch dashboard. Leather has been used extensively on the seats, dashboard and door trims.
The rear end of the Avventura has the tailgate-mounted spare wheel and tail lights. The spare wheel is not fixed to the rear bumper. Instead a mechanism is required to pull it aside and access the boot.
The car has dual airbags and ABS with EBD as safety measures.
The Fiat Avventura is 3989 mm long, 1706 mm wide and 1542 mm tall and the ground clearance is 205 mm. The Fiat Avventura has a boot space of 280 liters. The NVH levels inside the cabin are well under control.
Coming to the mechanical front, Fiat Avventura is available in two engines. One is a 1.4 litre FIRE petrol unit producing 90 ps of peak power at 6000 rpm and 115 NM torque at 4500 rpm. The other is a 1.3 MJD diesel motor producing 90 ps and 209 NM of power and torque respectively. Both engines are mated to a 5 speed manual transmission. The fuel economy of the Avventura is 20.5 kmpl.
The Avventura is available in six paint options – Zafferano Orange, Exotica Red, Minimal Grey, Hip-Hop Black, Vocal White and Bronze Tan which is a new paint option and is not available on any other cars currently sold in India.
Fiat Avventura falls in the Rs 5.99-8.17 lakh price range. The Fiat Avventura lock horns with the likes of Ford EcoSport, Toyota Etios Cross and Volkswagen Cross Polo.
