2. Stanford University – Stanford, CA
If you grew up on the west coast, Stanford University might be a better place to attend college for an undergraduate major in electrical engineering. While it is not quite as heralded or prestigious as Massachusetts Institute of Technology, it is still one of the premier schools in the country in the field of electrical engineering undergraduate majors. Since 1893, Stanford University has been leading the way in the electrical engineering major. If you want to stay closer to the west coast for an undergraduate degree, then Stanford University might be a better choice than MIT.

3. University of California Berkeley – Berkeley, CA
Another great choice of schools if you are planning on staying on the west coast is the University of California Berkeley. Located right in Berkeley, California, this school has a lot more to offer than just academics. Cal Berkeley offers a great setting for living as well as a great electrical engineering program. While it costs between 32,000 and 47,000 dollars each year depending on whether you are a resident of California or not, this university could be a great investment if you can afford attending.

4.University of Michigan – Ann Arbor, MI
If you are looking to earn a degree from one of the top ranked programs in electrical engineering, then the University of Michigan could be perfect for you. In 2008, the University of Michigan was rated #1 for US public universities, and was #1 in the country in the amount of Fulbright recipients for the 3rd time in 4 years. While their academics are great at Michigan, you can also take part in the outstanding events and extracurricular programs that Michigan has to offer. At Purdue University, if you decide to become an electrical engineer, you will gain experience in all areas of research, development, design, and operation of electrical and electrical systems. 6. Georgia Technical Institute – Atlanta, GA
While this is a public school, one of the best electrical engineering public schools, it still offers a great education and allows you to make that huge jump from school to a job. The average starting salary of someone who gets their undergraduate degree in the school of electrical engineering at Georgia Tech is approximately 60,000 dollars a year. That is well over the national average. If you want to attend a school that can almost guarantee a high starting salary out of college, go to Georgia Technical Institute in Atlanta, Georgia.

Cornell offers one of the more flexible curriculum in the entire country with you being able to choose courses that will help you succeed in whatever you specifically want to achieve in electrical engineering.
