Twice a year in both February and September the fashion worlds brightest and best descend on London for London Fashion Week. The week-long showcase of fashion talent and designs is a part of a wider program of shows which take place in Milan, Paris and New York.

The event was first held in October 1983 and the event quickly caught the attention of traders within the fashion, beauty and even non-related sectors who saw the appeal of the event as a great marketing and advertising tool. Companies such as Toni & Guy and Mercedes-Benz have funded the event in recent years. Just three short years after it began in London, the fashion week started to draw in high profile dignitaries, and in 1986 the country was shocked when Margaret Thatcher attended the event for the entire week. Since then politicians, celebrities and members of the royal family all regularly attend.

Everyone from the upper class right through to fashion students looking for inspiration turns up each year to sit and watch the models showcasing the talents of up and coming designers along with some well-known household names. Students, in particular, gain lots from the event and often when they return to their education studios you will find them browsing through dressmaking fabricsand patterns and they will start searching websites like https://www.quality-fabrics.co.uk/dressmaking-fabrics-14-c.asp to find the best options for the design inspiration that is inevitably flying around in their heads following on from what they have seen on the catwalks.

Stella McCartney first attended whist still a student back in 1985 and showcased her collection. By the end of the spring show, she had made incredible sales on her entire collection and she began what has been a longstanding place as one of the UK’s premier designers.

Fashion students, celebrities and industry business owners are not the only people drawn to London in February and September. The blogging community quickly gained the support of the event organisers and over 2000 blog writers and fashion influencers register to attend each year to be the first to share their views on the event. The bloggers write articles and share photographs and videos and have fast become another marketing tool for both the event and for the designers exhibiting their collections.

It is no wonder that the event grows year on year as annually around 5000 people attend and it is thought that over £100 million worth of orders are taken as a direct result of the show. It really is the premier fashion event in the United Kingdom.
