Maruti Suzuki, India’s number one automobile manufacturer launched the Swift DZire, the sedan version of the Swift hatchback in 2008. This model did not enjoy the excise benefit as it was not less than 4 m in length. A new version of the Swift Dzire was launched in 2012 with a shorter frame.
Let us take a look at the features, exteriors, interiors and other aspects of this car. The Dzire is more compact with the length being less than 4 m. This helps it qualify for the excise duty benefits offered for cars which are less than 4 m in length.
The Swift DZire looks good with its new body coloured bumper, high mounted stop lamp, front fog lamp, and rear fog lamp. The ORVM with integrated turn indicators, the new slated front grille and headlamps add to the appeal. The rear with its boot looks a lot different. However, in the new Dzire, Maruti has made the boot much more integrated than the old Dzire. The boot space has been reduced from 440 litres to 316 litres.
The interior of the Swift DZire comes with a centre armrest, seat height adjuster, air conditioner, sun visor, remote back door opener, audio antenna, front head restraint, cup-holder and remote fuel lid opener. The instrument panel and the console consist of a multi functional display depicting the fuel consumption, trip/odometer, digital clock and speedometer. The other functions include a seat belt reminder, light-on reminder buzzer, and door closure warning lamp. The dash is two toned with a black and beige combination. The interiors look better with wooden inserts and leather, silver and chrome trims on the inside which adds to the appeal of the car. There is enough space for storage and many cubby holes, and lots of cup holders.
The Swift DZire is equipped with many safety features which include ABS, BA, and EDC.
Maruti Suzuki Swift Dzire comes in three trim levels and two engine options. The engines are a 1.2 l VVT petrol and the 1.3 l DDIS diesel. The 1.2 L is a powerful and fuel efficient four-cylinder with sixteen valves generating 87 bhp and 114 Nm of torque while the diesel variant is also with four cylinders and generates 75 bhp @ 114 Nm of torque. The engines come with an option of 4-speed automatic transmission and the 5-speed manual transmission.
The Swift DZire is available in the following variants – LDI, VDI, ZDI in diesel and LXI, VXI, ZXI, AT in petrol. The automatic transmission is targeted mostly at the urban market to make in city driving easier. The Maruti Suzuki Swift Dzire comes in the Rs. 4.85 to 7.32 lakh range.
