You’ve got an upcoming event, and you think you have all your ducks in a row – you may have considered printing flyers, brochures, and surely you have your design for the banner ready (what would any event be without the power of the banner?) Problem: what banner printing service should you choose; should you go for the CMYK or RGB printing? And what’s the difference, anyway?
Making sure your banner is printed in the most professional way is important, as the banner will automatically reflect on you, your company, your brand, and your product or service. You want the printing to be done well, and you want the printing to show quality. Here is some important info on CMYK and RGB artwork you should know about before having a banner printed.
What’s RGB?
We’ll start with RGB – it’s easier to understand. RGB stands for Red-Green-Blue print. Basically, the colours are mixed in such a way that many different hues can be created. If you look at most computer software and you want to decide on a colour, the hue will usually be defined as a combination of these three. Most digital images are in RGB form.
What’s CMYK?
CMYK stands for Cyan-Magenta-Yellow-Black. It’s a basic for printing that has been used for a very long time, even before the digital age took hold of modern printing technology. It still has many uses and chances are that when you print simple items such as business cards, you’re still getting serviced by a printer that uses CMYK technology.
Why it matters
Both are equally good – both serve the purpose. The problem is that when you design your artwork for your banner digitally (RGB) and it gets printed with a CMYK setup, it won’t come out as you expected it to. The same is true vice versa. You need to clarify this with your banner or brochure printing service.
Contacting your printer
Your monitor may show it one way, your print-out may be different. Contact your printer to see which method of printing is used before you commit.
The quality of your banner is very important – if the banner printing doesn’t come out well, then all your efforts will have been in vain. A poorly printed banner will reflect poorly on you; the viewers and readers will get the wrong impression. The audience may think that you are not serious about your company, your brand, and your product or service; or worse, they may think that since you are cheap, you will not offer quality. On the other hand, if you do it right, the results are bound to flow in one after another. Pay attention to the printing – it’s crucial. Contact your printer today.
