The Northampton Saints Rugby Union Club have granted Alex Corbisiero an early release from his contract with them, following a number of long-term injuries.

In his time playing for the Saints, Alex has helped the club to victory many times over and he also has an impressive track record playing both for England and for the British and Irish Lions.

Injuries

Following a string of injuries going back as far as 2013, Alex then sustained a back injury in the last game he played; a pre-world cup game against France in August 2015, which left England defeated. Since that match he has not been able to play and has not appeared in the Saints line-up at all this season.

27 year-old Alex has stressed his thanks for the support he’s received from the club, both on and off the pitch. He is quoted as saying, “I’ve had some amazing highs and some frustrating lows at Saints but have always been looked after.”

He has also thanked the Saints fans for being incredibly supportive, adding that they always made him feel welcome at The Gardens, and have created an unforgettable atmosphere at every game.

Corbisiero was signed to the Saints in 2013 following a stint at London Irish. He has notched up a total of 19 England caps since 2011 when he made his first international debut. He has also had two caps for the British and Irish Lions and 10 for the England U20 team from his younger years.

Corbisiero was a key player in the Saints victories over the last two years, including the European Challenge Cup Trophy and the Aviva Premiership Trophy in 2014. In 2015 the Saints also finished top of the league.

The Future

Alex has not confirmed when, or if at all, he will be returning to professional rugby, although there’s no doubt he’ll carry on with his rugby drill practices, like those found at http://www.sportplan.net/ and work on building back his strength and keeping his fitness levels up.

As a well-loved player for the Saints, both the club management and the fans have expressed their sadness and regret at his departure, but have wished him every bit of luck for the future and fully recognise what he’s helped achieve for the club.
