There have been numerous developments in the wireless technology these days. The Internet hasn’t been around for very long, but we have seen many new things. Obviously, things have improved quite far from the dial-up modems era. Back then, it would take up significantly more times to just download a single MP3 file and load typical images. The introduction of wireless Internet technology has changed user experience. Although early wireless networks were very slow, they could provide versatile connectivity compared to typical high-speed connections. Everyone inside a medium-sized room could easily be connected to the Internet using their computing devices. In general, computers should be able to support the WiFi connectivity to achieve this. Routers should be able to provide proper signals that are transmitted through the antenna. The speed of wireless connectivity is usuallly faster than the transfer rate of the Internet connection itself. However, it is clear that the farther users get away from the wireless router, the slower the overall connection will be.

The WiMAX is intended to provide reliable wireless Internet connection, with much less distance-based performance degradation. Instead of using wireless routers, WiMAX is based on towers. In this case, users could move between the coverage of one tower to another without being disconnected while using a single account. This technology is useful to provide coast-to-coast data coverage. People who are frequently on the road should be able to take advantage of this technology, because they are not always in the coverage of typically short-ranged WiFi hotspots. Users could simply flip open their WiMAX-enabled laptop and computing devices and connect to the network, as long as they are inside the coverage of tower.

Basic Differences Between WiFi and WiMAX

In general, the main difference between these two wireless technologies is based on how far we could travel before we lose the coverage. Because WiMAX is based on the use of towers, users could get more coverage. Other than that, we should also take into consideration standard mobile-based wireless technology, such as 3G and 4G LTE. In fact, current wireless technologies have rivalled the performance of standard wire-based Internet connectivity, such as DSL; although mobile-based solutions are typically much more expensive. Many people habitually travel for both business and leisure purposes, so it is a good idea to choose solutions that allow them to stay connected while travelling.

It is unfortunate that the WiMAX is relatively unpopular in many countries due to a variety of reasons. In these countries; affordable, short-ranged WiFi hotspots are usually available widely in homes, offices, shopping centers, cafe and other places. If they are unable to connect to any WiFi connection, people would normally switch to their standard mobile access, which is based on 3G or 4G LTE technologies. Regardless of the mobile technology we choose, we need to make sure that it is reasonably affordable and could provide good wireless performance. There are many available options to choose from and we could consult the nearest service providers for the best solution.
