Andreas Zivy is most commonly known for his position as the Chairman of Ameropa Holding AG. He has been running this enterprise as President of the Board for five years, and has worked within the company since 1980. Ameropa is a family business established in 1948, producing and marketing fertilisers and grain. Ameropa operates worldwide, handling everything from production, logistics, marketing and distribution, mainly focussing on the physical trading of grains and fertilisers. Ameropa holds numerous assets, including storage facilities such as silos, warehouses, production plants, and port facilities. Since 2010, Andreas Zivy has been president of the Board of Ameropa AG, and the Ameropa Foundation, which funds charitable projects in developing countries.
Andreas Zivy was born in Basel in 1955, where he studied from 1966-1974 at Humanistic Secondary School in Basel. After secondary school, he then went to Military Recruit School in Wangenan der Aare for a year, before studying at the Institute of Political Science (IEP) in Paris where he achieved a Master Diploma.Andreas Zivy is fluent in German, French and English, and speaks conversational Portuguese.
After his graduation in 1978, Andreas Zivy began working as a commercial employee for the Bunge Group in Brazil. He was employed with the Bunge Group for two years, before beginning his career with Ameropa AG in 1980 as an office head for Ameropa France S.A in Paris. From 1980-1983, he worked as a commercial employee for Prochaska & Cie. in Vienna, and in 1982 became an appointed Prokurist. From 1983-1986, Andreas Zivy began work as the Managing Director of S.I.A.M, S.A.
In 1986, he was employed as the Vice-President of Ameropa AG. By 1995 he was appointed the CEO of Ameropa AG and member of the board of directors.
In 2001, Andreas Zivy helped to found the Ameropa Foundation, which is focussed on investing in sustainable and progressive charitable programs in the developing world. As of 2010, Andreas became President of the Board of Ameropa AG.
Andreas Zivy’s work with the Ameropa Foundation has helped to support humanitarian, entrepreneurialand educational projects in the developing world, and since its conception, has helped to create more than 5,300 jobs, provide education and professional training to 19,000 people, and helped to house elderly persons and needy families. It has also pioneered many sports and cultural programs, built schools and training centres, and provided much needed capital to promote local enterprise in developing countries.
Andreas’ aim with the Ameropa Foundation is to help promote self-help as well as humanitarian causes in the developing world, whilst simultaneously helping to reduce marginalisation and deracination, and foster educational and entrepreneurial programs. He believes that these are the foundations upon which communities can develop in prosperity, harmony and dignity.
As President of the Board of Ameropa AG and the Ameropa Foundation, Andreas Zivy has helped to promote policies of sustainable agriculture, by promoting safe and more effective fertiliser applications (ensuring fertilisers are used correctly, at the right time, with the right product, and in the right place); reducing the impact Ameropa has on the environment by reducing emissions of air, water and noise; and energy-saving initiatives to reduce the carbon footprint of the business. These policies have not only helped to increase the long-term profitability of Ameropa AG by investing in more efficient, sustainable initiatives, but has also reduced the impact that Ameropa has on the environment, and encouraged the rest of the industry to follow in their footsteps.
