Since I joined Miami Ad School, I’ve been asked silly questions day and night that only Advertising students can relate to. Therefore, I thought of summing them all up so the next time are conversing with an ad students you already know the answers to all your ridiculous questions!

Are you a writer, editor, artist, salesman, marketer or public relations specialist?

Things Everyone Who Studies Advertising At University Will Understand

Well, we can be all of the above! We are taught to produce ad copy, broadcast copy, jingles and other written communications. We are taught arts in many forms— illustrations, photography, web designing, digital art, painting and sometimes we even have to act for friends in their ads when the actors run away!

You must be really creative?

Things Everyone Who Studies Advertising At University Will Understand

Hell, yes! But on the flip side, our work is subject to approval, editing, and changes by other people. That often results in killing the creative part from our work that only other creative people can understand.

Are you one of those guys going door-to-door to sell products?

This is the most inappropriate question to ask a person who is spending thousands of dollars to get their degrees. We are the advertisers, not salesperson! We advertise things by making campaigns and strategies, not by ringing your door bell asking you to buy a certain product.

Why you actually do?

We are the puppeteer in a puppet show. We are the people behind the success of big brands! We create the strategies to trick people’s mind to buy certain products. A particular face wash might advertise that it helps you with acne and pimples better than competitors, that it smells good, and that it leaves your skin feeling fresh. We believe that these properties are ones that will help us to choose a face wash we want you to buy.

Can you design my logo for free?

We are spending years and thousands of dollars not to design free logos and graphics for you one day. There’s an old saying “when you are good at something never do it for free.”
