Sony’s PS4 launch lands in hot water

As expected with any new hardware and software there are bugs to be found and fixed. In this case the highly anticipated PS4 gaming console is out and fans are grabbing it up left and right. One problem however, the Sony PS network is down for the count. Players can’t login and those that can find errors all over the place. Much like President Obama’s healthcare website, Sony is hitting all the wrong marks and fans are furious that the company isn’t addressing the issue properly. It’s reported that Sony only put out a small message stating that the site and network were undergoing maintenance. That doesn’t sit too well with players who had just shelled out more than$400 for the new PS4

Plagued with problems with their network for years, one would think that Sony would have troubleshot the system before releasing the console. Somehow this all missed the execs and engineers there to the point now all they have are untold numbers of fans and players and customers who aren’t getting what they paid for. Sony is avoiding the issue by being coy and that is raising the ire of its customers and that is not a good thing. It may be that Sony has become arrogant to the point they know they’re making a killing selling console and paid subscriptions to their network and counting the money is more important than providing service. This may cause Sony some customers if it keeps up and isn’t resolved soon. Xbox would sure like to have the PS4 customers. Sony lost untold numbers of customers when their network got hacked a while back. That problem got solved but was addressed the same way this one is, with a lack of pertinent information and help. If this is their modus operandi then Sony may be cutting its own throat. They probably feel that since their console is cheaper and people love their games that they can relax on their laurels like the hare in the old Tortoise and the Hare fable. Only time will tell if this occurs with a revolt or not.

Companies like Sony have to realize that although they’re big and hold a significant part of a market that customer service is paramount. It’s doubtful that today’s apathetic culture will revolt en masse against Sony and Sony is banking on that for sure. It will take more effort on the part of customers to force Sony to be more courteous and informative.
